What is WDM and how it works?

WDM stands for Wavelength Division Multiplexing. It is a technology used in fiber optic communication networks to increase the bandwidth capacity of a single optical fiber by transmitting multiple signals simultaneously at different wavelengths. In WDM, different data signals are assigned to different wavelengths of light, which are then transmitted over the same fiber. Each wavelength is modulated with its own data signal, and the resulting optical signals are combined and transmitted over the fiber. At the receiving end, the signals are separated by a demultiplexer into their individual wavelengths, which are then converted back into their original electrical signals. There are two main types of WDM:  Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing  (CWDM) and  Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing  (DWDM). CWDM is used for short-range transmissions and typically supports up to 18 wavelengths. DWDM is used for long-haul transmissions and supports up to 80 or more w...
